Mapleshade Upgrade Stands for the Gallo Reference 3.0, 3.1 and 3.5 speaker series were designed by Pierre Sprey in cooperation with Anthony Gallo to unlock the full potential of these fabulous speakers. The Gallo Reference 3.1s were our founder's studio monitors for many years because Pierre was knocked out by their fast and transparent midrange, endless top end, and warm, powerfully extended lower registers. Good as the Gallo Ref 3s are, the stock base bottlenecks their sound because it is too narrow and too lightweight.
Exclusively made using solid, air-dried Ambrosia maple, our upgrade stands double the width and quadruple the thickness of the stock Reference 3.1 stands, replace the small stock steel feet with massive, brass Megafeet and Heavyfeet, and double the tiltback angle for better transient time-alignment. These elements yield new solidity in the bass, lovely extra midrange warmth and detail, and new-found treble air and purity.
• Upgrade Stands For Gallo Reference 3 series speakers include a matched pair of stands hand finished with clear satin that beautifully enhances the striking natural grain character of our air-dried maple. We also offer three made-to-order toned finishes: Natural Cherry, Deep Rosewood, and Satin Black.
• Choose 2" or 4" thick bases and finish options from the "Maple Thickness & Finish" drop-down menu.
• 4" bases invariably sound better than 2" bases, we recommend this option. The difference is clearly audible—and is particularly dramatic on concrete, tile, and engineered wood floors or subfloors.
• The distinctive character of Ambrosia maple's natural grain coloring and figuring is unique for each pair of stands. Our Amish craftsmen hand-plane matched pairs from the rough-cut, air-dried 2½" and 4½" maple to remove the saw marks. Typically this yields finished 2" and 4" thicknesses but, because of variations in the rough-cut timber, the exact finished thickness can vary by 3/16”.
• The default option for the pre-attached stand footers is a array for hard floors. These have a rounded bottom to avoid marring handsomely finished hardwood floors.
• When installing Upgrade Stands on carpet & rugs, be sure to select this option using the "Pre-Attached Stand Footers" dropdown menu. These have sharp points that will penetrate pile and pad up to 1" deep. It's crucial the Upgrades stands are rigidly coupled to the subfloor for maximum bass clarity and extension, not 'floating' on top of the carpet or rug.
