Best known as the alto player Ellington found to replace Johnny Hodges, Norris Turney was sadly under recognized in his lifetime. Originally released in 1995, this album was co-produced by our late Music Director, Larry Willis. He enlisted Walter Booker and Jimmy Cobb to accompany Norris for this session, some consider the resulting album a jazz and audiophile masterpiece. The original unedited analog tapes of this recording session survived the 2007 Mapleshade Studio fire. They were restored, transferred and re-edited by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering to create the new 24/96 digital master for this exceptional album.
