Most famously recorded on the seminal album Glass Bead Games, this powerful version of Stanley Cowell's tribute to the late jazz trumpeter Cal Massey was captured live on October 17, 1987, at Ethel’s Place in Baltimore's historic Mount Vernon district.

This track was erroneously included as the opening song on the original 1990 release of Live at Ethell's. The mistake was corrected for all subsequent editions and this cooking live rendition remained unavailable for over 30 years. Now offered for the first time as a 24/96 high-resolution digital single, the Quartet's rendition of "Cal Massey" is swinging, infectious, and deeply inspired—a worthy tribute to the enduring legacies of Clifford Jordan, Stanley Cowell, and Vernel Fournier.
