The Offering shines a spotlight on the brilliant, shimmering drum work of bandleader Bobby Battle. Celebrated for anchoring the high-energy ensembles of icons like Arthur Blythe, this beautifully restored and remastered classic captures Battle masterfully guiding a powerhouse acoustic jazz quartet through a rare, deeply soulful late-night session.

This 24/96 reissue breathes new life into Bobby's historic session. The original unedited two-track analog master tapes survived the 2007 fire that destroyed Mapleshade Studio. They have been meticulously restored and remastered by renowned engineer Paul Gold at Salt Mastering. The new high-resolution digital transfer unlocks a newfound layer of clarity, warmth, and breathtaking intimacy from this beautiful album.

From driving post-bop rhythms to delicate brushwork, Battle’s dynamic percussion commands the center of the stage. He acts as both the engine and the anchor, seamlessly blending fiery energy with precise, gentle nuance. Backed by the unshakeable bass lines of Santi DeBriano and the mellow piano of Larry Willis, Battle creates the perfect acoustic canvas for legendary tenor saxophonist David Murray to unleash a big, lush, and surprisingly relaxed sound.

Critically acclaimed upon its original release, this album stands as a powerful testament to Battle's artistry, earning a 4-Star review and a Jazz Disc of the Year Runner-Up nod from CD Review.
