Joe Stanley was Maryland's godfather of the gritty, down-and-dirty R&B sax sound of the 1950s and '60s. A true legend, Stanley performed with the Bill Black Combo (founded by Elvis’s iconic bassist), shared stages with Marvin Gaye in the legendary D.C. group The Rainbows, and mentored local guitar icons Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan. Produced by Big Joe Maher, this album delivers a rich blend of organ-driven grooves, soulful ballads, and deep, sax-fueled blues. The true highlights are Stanley’s bourbon-infused, Sinatra-style vocals on honky-tonk classics like "Jambalaya" and "Please Release Me." Backing him is an all-star band featuring twin electric guitars, a soul-steeped Hammond organ, and a driving baritone sax. The entire groove is locked down tight by John Previti’s razor-sharp basslines and Maher's punchy, rock-solid beat.
