I have been using Silclear for a number of years, now. If you're considering purchasing it, I can assure you that it does work, but also that the more connections in a system it's applied to, the greater the improvement. I can't stress enough, though, that the key to using Silclear is in the amount used. When they tell you to use the "thinnest coating possible", they really aren't kidding! I don't think most people will understand what this means at first. I didn't. When you apply Silclear, DO NOT dip the brush into it! Look for a thin film of it inside the lid or on the threads, and gently roll the brush on the film. Then use a cloth or paper towel and gently brush across the surface of it to remove most of what you just applied to the brush. Now, you're ready to apply the Silclear. Brush it on the metal part with even strokes for full, even coverage. This is best done under a strong light, as it will be difficult to see that you're even applying it; especially to a silver colored surface. Once applied, you should only be able to see a translucent silvery sheen on the metal when you turn it under a bright light. You should never think of using a thin coat like a thin coat of paint. That's way too much. It's properly applied when you can barely see it at all. I have found that, when carefully applied in this manner, the sound seems to be magnified. Everything sounds a little closer and clearer. This effect increases over the first few hours of listening. As I applied the Silclear to more and more contacts throughout my system, both inside and outside the components, the cumulative effect was similar to that of installing an external DAC. The more thorough you are with this procedure, the greater the improvement. "Pennies add up", as they say. You may at first feel disappointed with the amount that you receive, but you will quickly realize that when applied properly, there's enough in the little jar to share with all your friends and still have enough to last a lifetime. "The test results are unequivocal: SilClear improves sound." Mapleshade. I've owned this for few years, but actually haven't used it much at all - until last night. Prior to application I used DEOXIT to clean A/C plugs of the Tuner, AR SP3 Preamp and Amplifier, then applied the SilClear to each plug only. - Incredible. I've listened to Herbie Hancock's MWANDISHI Album countless times and it's somewhat my warm-up album before I really sit down, so I kind of "know" this album. At the end of the track 'Wandering Spirit Song' during the outro bass solo there an extremely Low Frequency (almost subsonic like an organ pedal) tone appeared/was felt that I have never ... heard. I flipped the album at least twice sitting in my spot just shaking my head wondering how is this be possible. - Soundstage doubled in height and width - Depth of Front -> Back soundstage imaging is more detailed - Impact - Increased detail and clarity without coloration - Eyes closed, it's as if a thin layer of silk has been removed and NOW .. one can hear I agree with Mapleshade's quote.

Worth your time

I bought a jar of this stuff back probably 10 years ago when I was really into trying to get the most of out my gear. From my recollection, the product, along with the entirely of the tweaks I did, got my system to the pinnacle of sound I have ever achieved. ----I just found the jar of Silclear in my box today and opened it and found I still have a good deal left. I have since moved houses and changed equipment, but started today on the power cords to my Air Tight ATM3 mono blocks. The plugs have a tarnish on them from age and oxidation. I have a 3 step process, 100% Caig-De-Oxit solution first, 2nd Caig Pro-Gold , then a thin coat of Silclear. --my upcoming plan is to do this process on each and every connection in my two systems. For those wiling to put in a little 'hard work' and go through the process of coating your connections, I can assure you the rewards are greater than opening your wallet to try and make the same level of improvements with new cords or gear swapping.

I bought my little tub of SilClear years ago, I can't even remember when. I initially was applying in when I was into my portable audio early days phase with iPod Classic stacked with Amp and DAC. Recently I was connecting my IEM 4 pole balanced connector to a 3.5 adapter and there were dropouts if I moved slightly. Recalling that I still have plenty of SilClear, I applied it to the connector and all is good now! Crisp clear sound even if i wriggle the connector around.

SilClear will significantly improve the sound (or video quality) of any interconnect, power cord, speaker cable, etc. The sonic improvements we hear are, first and foremost, a remarkable increase in treble extension, transparency, detail and sparkle, all without any added edginess. Bass sounds tighter, less boomy. Attacks are noticeably quicker and punchier. Midrange timbres and harmonic details are articulated more clearly, yielding a more natural and intimate musicality.

We have tested SilClear against most of the well-known contact enhancers-Cramolin, Tweek, Kontak, Cardas TC-2, XLO TPC, H2L, ProGold, DW and some exotic products costing up to $200. Most of them yield audible improvements; none came close to the remarkable SilClear sonics. As best we can gage, treating a $500 interconnect yields roughly the upgrade one should expect from switching to a $1000 interconnect. Ditto for power cords and speaker cables. The cumulative effects of treating all the connections in a system are beyond expectation; we know no way of investing an hour that yields greater sonic returns.

Technically, the SilClear engineering objective is simple: to create the thinnest possible continuous layer of silver between the two mating surfaces of any electrical connection. The test results are unequivocal: SilClear improves sound. The reasons are not so obvious. We hypothesize two mechanisms. One is the beneficial effect of a near-monomolecular layer of silver in reducing skin effect (i.e., the velocity disparity between signal propagation on the surface and in the interior of a conductor). Second is eliminating the distorting diode effects (i.e., unequal resistance to the + and - halves of a music waveform) of the inevitable oxide films on any conductor surface.

There are a number of available silver-filled greases that could be used to meet the thin silver coating objective. Unfortunately, all were developed for maximum thermal conductivity, that is, for conducting heat out of transistors, integrated chips or high current switch contacts. Though these silver greases can enhance sound, their sonic benefits are limited by the high dielectric absorption of the grease and the too-thick silver grains necessary to optimize heat flow.

We started from scratch in formulating SilClear. First and foremost, after investigating silver powders of decreasing grain size, we shifted to a technology that produces silver platelets far thinner than the finest silver powders made. Our final formulation uses silver platelets close to one-millionth of an inch thick-and with an astonishing surface area of 8 square feet for each gram. Besides giving a far better continuous silver-plating effect than powders, the ultra-thin platelets also make possible a higher proportion of silver to binder. For binder, we rejected the conventional thermal greases and sorted through dozens of others to find the one with the lowest dielectric absorption and the highest surface clinging properties (to allow many plug-unplug cycles).

For best results with SilClear, the following rules are essential:

1. Using the enclosed brush, coat ONLY the male surfaces of any connector, never the female surfaces. On RCAs, this means coat only the center pin of the male conductor and the outside cylindrical metal surface of the female jack. For RCAs, also coat the threads of any removable outer metal shell.

2. Use the thinnest possible uniform coat of SilClear on the entire male surface. Do NOT leave any excess or thick lumps.

3. Do not allow any SilClear to coat the insulating plastic of any plug. If you allow excess SilClear to coat a bridge across the plastic between the hot and the ground, you will create a short because of the high conductivity of SilClear. Fortunately, SilClear is easy to dissolve and remove with a Q-tip dipped in kerosene or white gas (or alcohol, though this takes more rubbing).

4. SilClear's initial sonic enhancement improves significantly with continued playback. You will hear overall system warmth and depth continue to improve for at least 4 to 10 hours.

The more completely you treat your system's connections, the greater the sonic (or video) improvement. Treat all of the following:

• All interconnect plugs, whether RCA, BNC, DIN or XLR. For turntables, treat both the cartridge pin clips and the tone arm wire plugs.

• All power cord connectors (AC wall plug as well as IEC). For DC power supplies, treat the umbilical cord connector (DC plug or DIN). For batteries, treat the + and - contact surfaces.

• All tube pins; SilClear will improve tube cooling and will be left unchanged by tube pin temperatures.

• All amplifier and speaker and ground wire binding posts.

• All fuse contact surfaces, particularly amplifier and power supply fuses.

• If you have your speakers apart, don't forget to treat the quick disconnects on the drivers.

• All FM antenna wire connections and couplers.

As long as you don't unplug a connection, there is no need to re-treat. Re-treating after 10-20 unpluggings is recommended (visual inspection will make it clear if it's needed).

Special Note For RCA Plugs

To understand why it's so important to leave no excess of SilClear, look down into the male plug. At the bottom of the center pin, you'll see a circle of plastic. That plastic insulates the pin (+) from the outer barrel ground (-). If a blob of SilClear bridges the plastic circle, you'll have a short, which will mute all sound. Fortunately, the short will not damage your equipment because interconnects carry only very low currents and voltage.

If you get a short, it can be cured by using a Q-tip or matchstick soaked in kerosene or white gas or, less effectively, alcohol.

Note For Tubes

Never let SilClear spread onto the glass at the base of the tube pins. SilClear on the glass between two pins can cause a short, but can be easily removed. (See above).

Big problem with this product..

Every tube pin, electrical fuse, interconnect done. Now here is the problem do I really need to get that PSAudio Transport for 5K or Forness 45 Amp for 2.5K. I assumed these were the 2 weak points. I live in Vienna, 10 mins from the Vienna Phil and the Opera. My system is now LIVE. Pioneer transport to LKS DAC, to el84SE driving AudioNirvana neodinium 8s in the Doppenberg Oris Horns. Kinergetic Tower woofs with Chord SS amp. Hi and low pass electronic filters at 150Hz. All cables Siltech. The last tiny roughness went right out of the window with Silver on the CD transport FUSE!! Bellinis La Sonnambula with Sutherland on Decca is gloriously, stunningly LIVE right now in my lounge. Drat, your product really gave a me a decision headache.. up-grade.. but for what? I did read recently that there is no electron flow per se but a waveform, not yet well understood.. maybe that is what the Silver has smoothed out on each surface? - Thomas Turk

Like lots of other audio hobbyists I like to try different tweaks to see which ones provide some marginal improvement in sound quality. However, after applying SilClear to my interconnects, power cords, and speaker cables I immediately noticed, not a marginal difference, but a large, very noticeable improvement! The sound was more clear, tight, just better. I also applied it to all the connections on my cable/DVD/TV system and once again there was an immediate and very noticeable improvement! The picture was brighter, cleaner, more clear. This is a great product! - Mark

Ive used SilClear on just about every connector throughout my system, to excellent results each step of the way. The most dramatic improvement, though, was to a $0.99 cord that I was using at the moment to connect my ipod to the system. A classic nightmare interconnect: plastic plugs, nickel-plated brass contacts, PVC dielectric It of course sounded dull, lifeless and very attenuated. On a whim, I treated the ends of the very low-quality RCA plugs and reconnected the cable. Volume settings were unchanged. The difference, as they say, was FAR from subtle. Loudness increased considerably, plus the amount of detail that came through this cheapie cable was astonishing! Clear, extended highs, silky mids and powerful bass, all from a cable that sounded tinny and flat before treatment! Aside from SilClear, I also use MikroSmooth, Optrix and the Ionoclast on all my CDs, SACDs, DVDs, HD-DVDs and other optical media, and I love what they do to the audio and video. I also treat my interconnects/speaker cables once a month with the Ionoclast. Another, non-audio use that Ive found for the Ionoclast is for removing static from my furniture! Its all upholstered in faux-suede that gets wildly charged, to the point that a type of St Elmos Fire will crackle between any exposed skin and the furniture fabric! Well, after getting countless shocks I decided to give the Ionoclast a whirl at removing the static charge from my furniture. Guess what? It works and works great! As a psychologist I was skeptical because just about any change claimed to be beneficial is perceived as an improvement. Turn the lights up at work and productivity rises, turn them down a a year later and productivity rises. Well, I tried Silclear feeling a bit funny about it. I was impressed from the first listening. This was no placebo effect. The music is more present and alive, with hearing of previously impercievable instrumentation in the backround of well known favorites. The soundstage was also more defined and solid. Thank you so much. I look forward to re-hearing my entire collection and also trying some of your more expensive products - now that I know that your claims are modest for SilClear. - Joe

You have done it again! As usual, everything you claim is true. If anything, your claims regarding SilClear are an understatement. Having put SilClear on all the terminations in my 30K system I can honestly recommend that all those who are looking for the next tweak should stop and by this product first. It is very doubtful that you will find this much sonic improvement for less than a 1K investment. My every hope is that you will continue to develop brilliant products like this. Who needs new components when we can make a small investment in a product like this and essentially have new components without them ever leaving the rack. - Chris H

SilClear is remarkable, a very noticeable improvement and very cost effective tweak. I put it on all speaker cables, all RCA interconnect cables, and all power cables, as well as an I2S connector for my Muse 8 transport. Received the Silclear yesterday, two days after placing the order! I decided to give it a small trial in the most critical area of playback, on phono cartridge clips and the ICs to my tubed phono pre. I noticed an immediate increase in micro detail which encouraged me to dig a little deeper. Today, I put it on PCs, all my ICs, tubed linestage, tubed amps, CDP. I even used it on most of my fuse holders, some of which are internal. Your claims for this stuff are not exaggerated! My initial impression today was a yawn, but then I got serious and played references, both vinyl and digital. After a few hours, theres an increase in micro detail, much faster bass. I re-balanced my bi-amped set-up to take advantage of the loss of hash on top, resulting in a crisper presentation without the hard edge I used to compensate for. Im primarily a DIYer, so I've done some critical listening. Worth it? You bet! Tomorrow, binding posts. Gotta listen sometime. - Larry W

Took about 1.5 hours to apply. Included brush seems to be the perfect size. Easy to perceive sonic improvements. About 2 hours into my listenting session I put in a very familiar disc D. Matthews Band - Live from Central Park DVD and I was greeted with increased dynamics, better bass control and attack, as well as isolation of individual musicians and instruments in the soundstage. Everything had this incredibly smooth and rich impact. Talk about being overjoyed. Just when I thought my system couldnt possibly sound any better! The results are quite tangible and very rewarding. Im still amazed at the impact of such an inexpensive tweak. Not to mention you get plenty of product. I have enough left over to treat my system at least another 100 times if not more. I plan to share with some friends to get the word out about Mapleshade. My only regret is I didnt know about this stuff sooner. - Steve J

Yesterday I received part of my order of a maple block, brass and isoblocks. The maple is still being built so I decided to try the silver contact enhancer I ordered along with my other items. If I told you it was a miracle Id be understating the improvement I hear in my system. I stayed up until 2:00AM listening to old familiar albums hearing details in the sound Ive never heard before. I always keep my contacts clean so I was prepared for little or no difference when I tried your product. This made a substantial improvement in the sound, similar to switching from a cheap MM cartridge to a Koetsu or other pricy MC. Sounds that were never audible were abundant in old records. I actually had to dig up an old Pink Floyd album to listen again. Its been probably over 10 years since I listened to this album and Im hearing things I never knew were there. Pierre, this is awesome. I never thought my system building in terms of the contacts. Im religious about keeping things clean so I didnt expect much. WOW...was I wrong. - Steve I, PA
