Hailing from the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C., the Knuckledrags were a mid-90s hardcore punk outfit that was a staple of the local scene but largely unknown outside of it. This previously unreleased five-song EP captures the band at their peak, recorded live to two-track analog tape by Pierre Sprey at Mapleshade Studio during the summer of 1999. In line with Mapleshade’s purist standards, the production utilized no multitracking, overdubs, compression, mixing, EQ, or reverb. The result is a raw, unprocessed time capsule—and one of the only surviving recordings of this tragically obscure D.C. band.
At the time of this recording, the Knuckdrags consisted of Chunch (vocals), Adam (guitar), Dan (drums), and Steve (bass). "Tainted Love" is previously unreleased, all other tracks on this EP were later re-recorded for a split CD with Richmond, Virginia's Red Angel Dragnet—the Knuckdrags only full-length release. After the group disbanded in 2000, its members went on to play in Affront, The Goons, and Lifecoach. The original analog tape from this 1999 session survived the 2007 Mapleshade Studio fire. It was restored and transferred by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering to create the high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz digital master for this release.
