Formed in 1995, Crispus Attucks were a hardcore punk band from the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC. This previously unreleased five-song EP was recorded live to two-track analog tape by Pierre Sprey at Mapleshade's Beechwood Studio in Upper Marlboro on June 13, 1999. No multitracks, overdubs, noise reduction, compression, mixing, EQ or reverb were used for the recording or production of this EP.
The band members at the time of this recording were Jamie (vocals), Matt (rhythm guitar), Hilary (lead guitar), Bill (bass) and Pat (drums).
"Do Something" is a very early song dating back to the band's first demo. "Convenience Kills" and "Survivl" are versions of songs that would later appear on their 2000 album Destroy the Teacher. "Burn In Effigy" was traditionally the last song of every Crispus Attucks live show, originally recorded for their 1998 self-titled album. "Maryland Band" is previously unreleased.
During their lifetime, Crispus Attucks released three albums and toured throughout the United States and Europe before the band broke up in 2002.
The original analog tape of their recording session survived the 2007 Mapleshade Studio fire. It was restored and transferred by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering to create the 24/96 digital master for this EP.
