Everyone from JazzTimes to Stereophile has heralded Live At Ethel's as one of Clifford Jordan’s very best, most appealing recordings. The album features a mix of jazz standards like "’Round Midnight" and "Don’t Get Around Much Anymore", alongside some of Jordan's own compositions, all delivered with a lyrical and sophisticated performance. The recording, produced and engineered by Pierre Sprey, employs minimal miking and high-quality cables, creating an extraordinary level of clarity and presence that makes it difficult to believe this is a live album.
